The Committee on Adolescence (COA) addresses the unique health care needs of adolescents and promotes the pediatrician as their optimal source of health care. The mission of COA is to educate and provide guidance to pediatricians and other health care clinicians on key areas of adolescent and young adult health. To this end, COA monitors and makes policy recommendations to the Board of Directors on issues surrounding vital adolescent health issues, including reproductive and sexual health care services; the provision of confidential health care services, identification and management of eating disorders, and mental health (eg, anxiety, suicide prevention, and bipolar disorder). COA works closely with the Section on Adolescent Health (SOAH) to bring policy and education together.
