Committee on Pediatric and Adolescent HIV (COPAH)

The Committee on Pediatric and Adolescent HIV (COPAH) provides guidelines and recommendations for the care and treatment of infants, children and adolescents with HIV and their families through the development of AAP policy statements. Through this work, COPAH aims to reduce risk, promote testing, expand education and prevention, advance equitable access to care, reduce stigma, optimize treatment options, and improve the health outcomes and quality of life for infants, children and adolescents living with and at risk for HIV.

History

The AAP has been at the forefront of research in pediatric HIV infection since the beginning of the HIV epidemic. In response to the increasing numbers of children with HIV infection in the United States, the AAP developed a Task Force on Pediatric AIDS in 1987, which became the Provisional Committee on Pediatric AIDS in 1992, and the Committee on Pediatric AIDS in 1995. In 2022 the Committee requested a name change to the Committee on Pediatric and Adolescent HIV.
