Welcome to the AAP Section on Early Career Physicians (SOECP)!

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Chair for our Section of over 7,000 members! We represent a diverse group of early career pediatricians across the Academy. The SOECP strives to provide pertinent and practical resources and opportunities for professional development, advocacy, mentorship, and leadership.

Over the years, our leadership programming has provided our members with valuable leadership training and has served as a prime example of the Section’s commitment to the development of leaders in the field of pediatrics. In the coming year, we expect to announce a new leadership program or set of programs that equips our members, especially those underrepresented in medicine, with skills that empower them to be champions for equity and create inclusive work environments. In the meantime, I encourage you to check out the recordings of our recent webinars on pertinent leadership topics that are posted on our members-only collaboration site (AAP login and SOECP membership required).

The Section’s member-driven strategic plan work is accomplished by the dedicated volunteer leaders on 5 workgroups: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI); Membership; Education; Advocacy; and Communications. While EDI remains its own workgroup, we strive to have an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens in and through all our work as a Section.

We invite you to join our Section, add your voice to our workgroups, and apply for the various leadership opportunities available throughout the year!

The SOECP is here to support your career while uniting our voices to improve the health of all children.
